Custom Gaming PC Update – The Latest In Gaming Tech

The best part about PC gaming is the ability to customise every aspect of its hardware. You’re able to create your own shortcuts and customise your device so you can run the latest releases on the newest tech, supported by quality peripherals that improve gaming accuracy with superior graphics.

The online PC gaming market will reach US$46.7 billion by 2026. According to the latest PwC entertainment and media outlook report, Australia spent $3.175 billion on games and exports in 2019. This amount is expected to increase to $4.9 billion by 2025.

As a key revenue sector boasting one of the highest growth rates that proactively contribute to the global gaming market, we can and should expect a lot from the Australian PC gaming environment.

The Digital Games Tax Offset (DGTO) rollout on 1 July 2022 is also a testament to how committed the Australian Government is to advancing this industry.

The DGTO is intended to strengthen the local gaming industry and increase investment in tech and creative talent employment. With these recent announcements and the forecasted growth for the sector, we look at some of the tech we expect to see that will support the gaming market and keep the custom gaming PCs we build the best in class.

Gaming monitors

If 4K is your preferred viewing standard, 2022 is your year for 4K gaming PC monitors. Most gaming manufacturers have already launched or are still planning to launch 4K gaming monitors before the year closes out.

4K monitors offer an incredibly rich graphics viewing experience. They are ultra-high definition, offering a 4000-pixel display. This level of graphics delivery will only be compatible with the most powerful graphics cards. The cost for these cards currently sits at the very top of the price pile, although considering most manufacturers are playing the 4K monitor game, we can expect prices to come down once the early adoption phase abates.

Another thing to note is a 4K monitor sits at 60fps (frames per second). The ideal gaming frame rate is most desirable at QHD (Quad High Definition) 144fps, which will form a large part of the monitor purchasing process.

RAM

RAM for PC gaming requires a trigonometric decision-making process between performance, latency and affordability. A view of a current custom build vs a future-ready custom gaming setup will also need to be taken, and considerations will need to be made when choosing a dual-channel or single stick kit.

It would be wise to consider a minimum capacity between 16GB and 32GB. The more intensive the device task or tasks, the higher the RAM needs to be to avoid latency and bottlenecking.

GPU word in a Graphics processing units

GPUs

GPUs (Graphics processing units) are specialised electronic circuits designed to rapidly manipulate and alter memory to accelerate the creation of images in a frame buffer intended for output to a display device. GPUs are needed in PC gaming to ensure the machine can run the latest game release with quality graphics. The 4000 series GPU is currently in development and is rumoured to be released in October this year.

GPUs have traditionally been overpriced, but as the industry grows with manufacturers vying for a bigger portion of the gaming pie, newer, more affordable GPU options are becoming available from well-respected brands. Identifying your specific GPU needs – whether they be for hardcore gaming or social gaming with a 3D rendering requirement – will need to be considered when building a custom-built computer solution.

CPUs

Those custom gamers wishing to run DDR5 will need to run the 12th generation Intel Core Processor or CPU (most Intel CPUs come with integrated graphics inside). AMD has not yet released processors that support DDR5 but their next generation of processors and accompanying Zen4 motherboard architecture is expected to drop later in the year. PCIe 5.0 and DDR5 CPUs were defined as ‘the new standard’ at CES 2022 earlier this year.

Professional consultation will be required to identify chipset and motherboard compatibility. Although the DDR5 offers twice the bandwidth compared to its predecessor to support faster processing with reduced power consumption, availability and motherboard upgrades become more complicated.

With three states already pushing to become part of Australia’s silicon valley and 127 new devices connecting to the internet every second worldwide, customisation will continue to lead the charge in transcendent gaming.
